Fexofenadine and brand names Allegra and Allegra-D (made by Aventis)
is an antihistamine, that works by blocking histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. It is used to relieve hay fever and
allergy symptoms, including runny nose, sneezing and red, itchy, watering eyes and to treat symptoms of hives, including itching and rash.
Fexofenadine may cause less drowsiness than other antihistamines. Allegra D also contains Pseudoephedrine which relieves nasal congestion commonly associated with colds or allergies.
Note : Hoechst became Sanofi Aventis after merging with Rhone-Poulenc.
Fexofenadine is also available from Sanofi Aventis under the brand name of Telfast.
