 Claritin (Loratadine), Claritin D (Loratadine and Pseudoephedrine) and
Clarinex (Desloratadine) are in a class of medications called antihistamines
which work by blocking histamine, a substance in the body that causes
allergic symptoms. They relieve hay fever and allergy symptoms, including
sneezing, runny nose and red, itchy, watery eyes and also to treat hives,
(including associated itching and rash). Clarinex may also be used as a
once-daily treatment for rhinitis. Claritin D also contains Pseudoephedrine which relieves the
nasal congestion commonly associated with colds or allergies.
Loratadine is also available under the names of Claratyne and Loridin
Desloratadine is also available under the brand names of Aerius or Desent or Deslor
