 Zyrtec (Cetirizine), Zyrtec D (Cetirizine + Pseudoephedrine) and generic
Cetirizine are in a class of medications called antihistamines, they work by
blocking histamine (a substance in the body causing allergic symptoms).
They relieve hay fever and allergy symptoms, including sneezing, runny
nose and red, itchy, watery eyes. Zyrtec is used to treat both indoor and outdoor seasonal
allergies including both seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and is effective in reducing the
symptoms of hives and pruritus. Zyrtec D also contains Pseudoephedrine which relieves nasal
congestion commonly associated with colds or allergies.
Zyrtec brand is co-promoted by UCB Pharma and Pfizer. Alternative brand names of Cetirizine
by other manufacturers include Alerid, Cetrizet, Cetrizin and Okacet.
Zyrtec and generic Zyrtec is available as capsules, tablets, drops, oral solution and syrup.
