 Zopiclone is a non benzodiazepine sedative hypnotic used in the short-term
management of insomnia. The standard dose is 7.5 mg before retiring, except
in elderly patients when 3.75mg is recommended.
As sleep disturbance could be a symptom of other physical and/or psychiatric
disorders, insomnia that continues after 7 to 10 days of treatment could indicate the presence
of a psychiatric or medical illness. Therefore the initial and continued use of Zopiclone should be
monitored by a doctor. Brands of Zopiclone include Imovane, Insomnium, Limovan or Ximovan.
Also available is eszopiclone, better known as Lunesta in the USA, Lunesta 3mg contains just
3mg of the active eszopiclone, whilst Zopiclone 7.5mg contains 3.75mg of active eszopiclone.
Insomnium, Imovane, Limovan, Ximovan and generic Zopiclone 7.5mg contain the higher dose
of 3.75mg active eszopiclone and 3.75mg of the inactive chemical called R-Zopiclone.
