Combined contraceptive pills or combination birth control pills, contain two hormones: (1) progestin (progestogen): in this case, levonorgestrel.

These high dose progestin only emergency contraceptives (containing levonorgestrel) are used to prevent pregnancy within 72 hours (but works best if taken within 24 hours) of unprotected sex.
They are often referred to as ECs and also as the 'morning after pill'. This drug is not an abortion pill, but it prevents ovulation and fertilization, thus preventing pregnancy. None of these emergency contraceptives terminate an existing pregnancy.
