Yasmin contains 30 mcg of ethinyl estradiol ("low dose") along with a unique progestin that also helps
reduce water retention. Yasmin contains 3 mg of drospirenone, a progestin that, as an analogue of
spironolactone, affects the regulation of water levels and electrolyte balance in the body.

These high dose progestin only emergency contraceptives (containing levonorgestrel) are used to
prevent pregnancy within 72 hours (but works best if taken within 24 hours) of unprotected sex.
They are often referred to as ECs and also as the 'morning after pill'.
This drug is not an abortion pill, but it prevents ovulation and fertilization, thus preventing pregnancy.
