 Lansoprazole and brand names Agopton, Prevacid and Zoton are
proton pump inhibitors, that blocks the production of stomach acid.
It is prescribed for the short-term (4 to 8 weeks) treatment of GERD
(Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease or acid reflux), stomach ulcers and
erosive esophagitis. Lansoprazole may also be used for up to 4 weeks
to treat duodenal ulcers and to prevent future duodenal ulcers after they have been cleared.
