Ketoprofen is a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) used
to relieve the inflammation, swelling, stiffness and joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Ketoprofen is also used for the treatment of bursitis and tendinitis or tendonitis, menstrual cramps
and for the relief of dental pain and mild to moderate pain caused by sprains and strains. Ketoprofen brands made by Sanofi-Aventis are:
Orudis, Orudis SR, Orudis Retard or Oruvail. (according to the country).
Orudis is immediately released into the blood and is used when the rapid relief of mild to moderate pain and menstrual cramps is needed. Oruvail, Orudis SR or Retard is slowly released into the blood and is not usually appropriate
where prompt pain relief is desired (dental pain, sports injuries etc). Ketoprofen is available in oral form, suppositories, injections, topical gel with no prescription.

Ketoprofen, Orudis Side Effects Ketoprofen, like other NSAIDs has side effects (these are usually dose related). Using the lowest effective dose will help to minimize these side effects.
Most common side effects of ketoprofen are: Ulcers, abdominal burning, pain, nausea, gastritis, gastrointestinal bleeding and liver toxicity.
Black tarry stools, weakness and dizziness upon standing may be signs of internal bleeding. Taking Ketoprofen on a full stomach (after food) will help to minimize these side effects.
Rash, kidney impairment, fluid retention, ringing in the ears and lightheadedness have occurred.
