Maxalt (Rizatriptan) is a selective 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist used
for treating the headache phase of migraine (with or without aura) in adults. It also relieves the other symptoms of migraine, such as
nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. Maxalt will not prevent or reduce the number of migraine attacks experienced.
Maxalt is manufactured by Merck and distributed by MSD (Merck Sharp and Dohme) or Eisai in
various countries. Types available: standard Maxalt tablets and orally dissolvable tablets,
which have a different brand name and description, depending on the country: (same product)
Maxalt MLT (orally disintegrating tablets) : Maxalt Melt (oral dissolvable tablets / wafers) Maxalt RPD (rapid disintegration tablets) : Maxalt Lingua or Liotabs (oral lyophilized tablets).
There are alternative brands (Rizact) and generics with the same active ingredient (rizatriptan)

Precautions Before Taking Maxalt Maxalt should not be used by migraine sufferers with basilar or hemiplegic migraine. Maxalt should not be used by pregnant or nursing mothers.
Maxalt should not be used to treat 'atypical' headaches, for example, headaches that might be associated with potentially serious medical conditions, (CVA, ruptured aneurysm) in which
cerebrovascular vasoconstriction could be harmful.
Maxalt should not be used by anyone with the following conditions or circumstances:
Uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart disease or history of heart disease. Taken MAO inhibitors within the last two weeks, or are taking certain other medications.
Talk to your doctor before using Maxalt if any of the following apply : History of chest pain, shortness of breath, or stroke. If you have risk factors for heart disease, (high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol,
obesity, smoking, are postmenopausal or are a male over 40.)
Common Side Effects of Maxalt The most common side effects reported are dizziness, sleepiness, tiredness, fatigue and pain
