Skelaxin (Metaxalone) is a skeletal muscle relaxant, it acts on the central
nervous system (CNS) by blocking electrical communication among nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Metaxalone is used in the short term, usually
for no more than 3 weeks (in combination with rest and physical therapy) to relax muscles and relieve stiffness and pain caused by muscle injuries, strains and muscle
spasms. Metaxalone decreases the impulses from the brain and spinal cord to the muscles and is believed not to have a direct effect on skeletal muscle.
Brand name Skelaxin is distributed by King Pharmaceuticals. The generic equivalent Metaxalone is distributed by Elan Pharmaceuticals.
