Oral Provera is a progestin which contains medroxyprogesterone
acetate, a synthetic form of the naturally occurring female sex hormone, progesterone. It is used to treat various menstrual disorders such as
irregular or abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormone imbalance, lack of menstruation (when periods have stopped) and the pain from endometriosis. Progestins at high doses, also prevent
ovulation and medroxyprogesterone injections are used for contraception. Medroxyprogesterone is also used in combination with estrogens for treating the symptoms of
menopause, to prevent growth of the endometrium that may lead to endometrial cancer.
Medroxyprogesterone brand names include: Amen, Curretab, Cycrin, Depo Progevera, Depo Provera, Deviry, Farlutal, Forlutal, Modus and Progevera.

Cautions before taking Medroxyprogesterone Do not take medroxyprogesterone if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as it
could affect the development of the baby. Do not take medroxyprogesterone without the approval of your doctor if you have any of the
following disorders: Bleeding or blood-clotting disorder Breast or uterine cancer Liver or gallbladder disease. Epilepsy or any seizure disorder
Migraines Asthma Kidney disease Heart disease Diabetes.
Medroxyprogesterone Side effects The following serious side effects have been noted and need emergency medical attention:
Allergic reaction: such as difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of lips, tongue, or face and hives. shortness of breath or pain in your chest
sudden severe headache visual changes painful, red or swollen leg numbness or tingling in an arm or leg prolonged, heavy, vaginal bleeding
stomach or side pain yellowing of the skin or eyes
Other less serious side effects are more likely to occur:
changes in appetite or weight swelling of hands or feet changes in menstrual cycle depression increase in body or facial hair or hair loss,
tenderness of the breasts nausea headache or insomnia changes in the voice acne and/or areas of darker skin
